Tips and Tricks to Improve Your Memory!
Join us for the next “Pasta, Pizza and Professionals Lecture, Dinner & Networking Series” on Monday, April 11, 2016 at Cibo Ristorante Italiano, located at 301 Alvarado in Downtown Monterey. Parking is available in the adjacent garage. This event will feature Menko Rose, creator of Skilligence® with a valuable presentation, "Tips and Tricks to Improve Your Memory!”
Menko Rose will discuss many effective ways to sharpen our memory. We can also solve important problems and work creatively to accomplish critical tasks and personal and professional goals. The lecture will take place from 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. and is no-cost. After the lecture, there will be a No Host Dinner and further Q and A with Menko Rose.
From 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m., Cibo is also offering attendees a special 3-course “Pasta, Pizza and Professionals” Dinner price of $24.95 (including a choice of Local Field Greens or Tuscan Bean Soup, a choice of Pizza Margherita, Rigatoni Di Giovanni Pasta, Salmon or Chicken) and dessert will feature Tiramisu. About Menko Rose
Born in Brooklyn and a Carmel resident since 1990, the 91-year old vibrant presenter, Menko Rose, created Skilligence®, a powerful framework to enable us to build our learning ability throughout our lives. Menko is a veteran of World War II, 90th Infantry Division, and received three battle stars and a Purple Heart. The idea for the Skilligence® books and workshops began in the early 1960’s after he was involved in a serious car accident. That incident started an “abreaction,” a reaction to two previous head injuries and other trauma suffered during World War II and a referral to the psychiatric department of the Veterans Administration hospital in Menlo Park.
There, Menko learned to relax anxieties and phobia away, to attend and stop focus flitting, and to motivate himself from his brain rather than his impulses and fears.
He took training in memory and reading skills, among other things, and tried his brain out on a Masters Degree in School Psychology at UC Hayward. He actually converted himself in a year or two from a 2.09 average in undergraduate school at Cornell University to an A student at UC Hayward, and received his Masters Degree in Counseling. He then pursued a Ph.D. in Learning at the University of Washington, settling for various reasons for a Ph.C. He is now retired from his many years as a marriage family therapist in Palo Alto and enjoys teaching Skilligence workshops and working on his book about the topic.
According to Menko, “We think this work is very important: (being able to improve adult learning ability). It was only recently that increasing adult intelligence was thought by academics to be worthy of reasonable effort. Before that, it was nothing but ridiculed. But increasing one’s level of learning ability is increasingly becoming not only more realistic, but also more important -- very important, if not critical. For in order for us to vote intelligently in this confusing, complex world, in order to relate kindly within evolving kinds of relationships, and to find and cope well with the jobs and careers available in today’s and tomorrow’s rapidly evolving economy, we all need to improve our ability to learn. And, fortunately, it turns out that adult intelligence, the ability to learn, is, in fact, remarkably improvable.”
Memory improvement is one of the ten core skills taught in the Skilligence curriculum. For more information, go to www.skilligenceworkshops.com.
