A Piping Hot Array of Live Celtic Music Ahead at the 53rd Annual Monterey Scottish Games and Celtic Festival
Don’t miss the 53rd Annual Monterey Scottish Games and Celtic Festival on July 16 and 17, 2022, hosted by the Monterey Scottish Games & Celtic Association, a very special event that will provide a feast for the senses!
The live Celtic music this year will be extraordinary and 8 different performers and bands can be enjoyed at two stages at the beautiful festival grounds. The event will feature many internationally renowned talented musicians who perform Celtic rock, Scottish traditional tunes, Irish pub favorites and much more. From toe-tapping familiar tunes to haunting harmonies to fusion rock influences and beyond, the music will be engaging, fun and interesting for all ages!
With more pipe bands on hand than ever before at this event, solo and live bagpipe band competitions will be held each day of the festival. The popular Roderick Mackay Drum Major Competition will also return to the games. The massed pipe bands at the conclusion of the event each day will simply be thrilling!
In addition, during the Saturday Night Ceilidh at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Resort & Spa, there will be more musical performances and a very special kitchen piping competition, featuring a freestyle piping competition.
About Celtic Music:
Celtic music is a term used to describe the musical traditions of Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall (in England), Brittany (in France), and Galicia (in Spain). Celtic music has been traced back to the 1600's and is still a hugely popular musical genre today. It has influenced other types of music as well including American country, blues and rock and roll.

The Gothard Sisters
The Gothard Sisters are a dynamic musical group of three sisters who play contemporary Celtic folk music. Through over 10 years of performing, touring and writing music together, the optimistic style of their music and performances continue to resonate with their fans, building a loyal international following.
The Ploughboys
For the better part of two decades, the Ploughboys have regaled the Los Angeles Celtic community with modern and traditional music from the British Isles, with dash of bluegrass, country, and American folk thrown in.
Xavier Boderiou
A bagpiper of great accomplishment from Brittany, France, he’s won solo competitions on the Scottish circuit. He’s been a member of three Grade 1 bagpipe bands: Simon Fraser University of Vancouver, Scotland’s Shotts & Dykehead Caledonia, and the more local Bagad Cap Caval.
Additionally, he has his own bagpipe and bagpipes supplies business at Boderiou.com and as two highly acclaimed albums, Liamm and Morenn.
Tempest
Since forming in 1988, Tempest has delivered a globally-renowned hybrid of high-energy Folk Rock fusing Irish reels, Scottish ballads, Norwegian influences and other world music elements. The last 30 plus years have seen the San Francisco Bay Area based act release seventeen critically acclaimed CDs and play more than 2,500 gigs.
The Bard and the Bird
Chris Baldwin is currently living in Monterey, California but is a native of Peachtree City, Georgia with 25 years’ experience performing around the United States and Asia. Playing Irish, American folk, 90’s, 80’s, and country songs, his wide range and singalongs offer an entertaining atmosphere. He has played over 400 live shows, getting his start in Atlanta, Georgia, then playing everywhere from Texas, Maryland, and South Dakota, to California, Hawaii, and South Korea.
Ross Miller
Hailing from Linlithgow, Scotland, Ross is a world-class bagpiper having studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with performances on the BBC and at the world pipe band championships as a member of the world champion Inveraray & District Pipe Band.
Peter Daldry
Peter Daldry, brings Scottish music to life with acoustic songs and traditional tunes refreshingly mixed with contemporary arrangements and original compositions. Daldry weaves wit and charm and lyrical guitar accompaniment to the songs and stories of his native land of Scotland. With over two decades experience of performing in concert halls and Scottish and Irish events on the West coast of the United States and Canada and playing folk clubs and festivals in Scotland, Daldry is as authentic as it gets.
Seven Nations
Seven Nations is not your father’s Celtic band. With a passionate, tender, and rollicking style that winningly veers from roots and folk to dance and fusion-rock, Seven Nations has earned a growing reputation as an adventurous band with a charismatic stage presence.
“Seven Nations — the name refers to the seven original Celtic nations of Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Cornwall, Galicia, Isle of Man, and Brittany — officially began in 1993 in New York City with a standard line-up of drums, guitars, and bass,” notes lead singer and guitarist Kirk McLeod. “We soon introduced bagpipes into the show, and over time the number of songs utilizing bagpipes grew until it became obvious that they were integral to our emerging sound,” says McLeod.
