Breakthroughs in Dentistry Can Improve Whole Body Health
October 23 – 29 is Oral Systemic Health Week. Monterey Dentist, Dr. Jeanette Kern is raising awareness, and helping consumers understand genetic health risks through dental care.
[Monterey, CA.] The Second Annual Oral Systemic Health Week takes place October 23-29, 2016. Award-winning Monterey General and Cosmetic Dentist, Dr. Jeanette Kern, is focusing on using innovative and new oral DNA saliva tests to better gauge health risks for patients.
Dr. Kern uses two oral DNA saliva tests. One pinpoints specifically which bacteria trigger periodontal disease, which can differ in different people. The other test helps determine if a patient has specific changes in DNA structure. Such changes can indicate increased risk of more serious disease including heart disease, diabetes and certain kinds of cancer.
“Passion for health and lasting wellness is what we are all about in my office,” says Monterey General and Cosmetic Dentist, Dr. Jeanette Kern. “We have long recognized the connection between oral health issues, and systemic, or physical health issues. Finally, technology has caught up with our dental observations. The oral DNA tests I use provide information critical to your health, and might help you prevent major issues altogether.”
The data provided by the oral DNA tests help Dr. Kern design dental treatment plans that specifically address the subjective health needs of each patient, and often empower preventative measures that can reduce risk of disease, potentially saving lives.
The oral DNA tests are fast and easy to collect. The patient simply swishes a saline solution in his/her mouth and spits it into a tube. The sample is then sent to a lab and it is tested. Results are sent back to Dr. Kern to share with her patients.
