Monterey's Old Fisherman's Wharf to hold a 170th Birthday Celebration on October 4th

September 2015 (Monterey, CA) –The Monterey Fisherman's Wharf Association will sponsor and hold Monterey’s Old Fisherman’s Wharf 170th Birthday Celebration at Old Fisherman’s Wharf, Monterey, California, on Sunday, October 4th from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The special celebration will take place during Monterey’s History Fest weekend of activities.

This free family-friendly event will celebrate the fascinating history of the Wharf which was built by Walter Colton in 1845. Come to the 170th Birthday Cake Cutting Ceremony at the Wharf tent at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday in front of Abalonetti Bar and Grill and enjoy a free slice of the whale-themed birthday cake donated by Carousel Candies.

To celebrate the birthday event, many Wharf restaurants will feature a variety of “fish-themed” cakes for purchase including:

Abalonetti Bar and Grill - Golden State Golden Fried Crab Cakes

Big Fish Grill - First City Wild Salmon Cakes

Liberty Fish – Liberty Crab and Shrimp Combo Cakes

Old Fisherman’s Grotto – Crab Cakes

Paluca Trattoria – Sardine Cakes

Carousel Candies will also offer (for purchase) a variety of flavored chocolate fish and a treasure chest filled with delicious chocolate coins.

The event will commemorate the Argentine sailor pirate Hippolyte Bouchard who raided and occupied Monterey in 1818. Attendees are invited to come in a pirate or sailor costume and take “selfies” with pirate statues at the Pirate’s Cove on the Wharf and stop by for a free chocolate coin found in the treasure chest at Carousel Candies.  

On October 4th from 4:45 p.m. - 7:00 p.m, Monterey Bay Sailing will offer a tranquil, romantic and memorable special Sunset Wine and Appetizer Cruise for $169 per couple.  The Cruise will feature Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, brie, grapes, pear and stone ground crackers and a roasted red pepper hummus with whole wheat pita bread.

Starting at 3:00 p.m., Monterey Bay Silver Company will offer a free silver charm ($7 value) with any purchase and shoppers can choose from over 100 charms including whale tails, dolphins, turtles, and more.
