Live Musical Entertainment

The very popular humorous Irish singer/songwriter Seamus Kennedy, will be returning to perform at the Festival as well as the award-winning Celtic folk band, Sligo Rags. Los Angeles Fifes & Drums will also be performing.

Seamus Kennedy is an Irish singer, songwriter, musician, comedian, all-around entertainer, and author. He has a huge repertoire that includes traditional Irish music, classic Country & Western, American standards, Scottish ballads, and kids' shows: entertainment for "the wee ones."Originally from Belfast, Northern Ireland, has been entertaining audiences all over the United States for almost four decades. An accomplished guitarist with a ready wit and a vast store of songs, he travels the country performing for thousands of people each year.

Sligo Rags was named among the top acoustic bands in LA (by Folkworks Magazine) and are two-time winners of the Orange County Music Award for Best Folk Band. This dynamic ensemble presents Celtic Folk with a decidedly bluegrass attitude. Sligo Rags is taking the local and not-so-local Folk and Celtic music scenes by storm with a unique blend of eclectic musical influences

Although there are accounts of fifes and drums playing in Los Angeles since at least 1905, the Los Angeles Fifes & Drums was re-established in 2009. They play at numerous events on rope-tensioned drums handcrafted by their members, and Healy Flute Co. Deluxe Model 10-hole B-flat fifes. LA Fifes & Drums plays Scottish and Irish tunes that the Black Watch Regimental music book had 100 years before pipe bands were even formed.  At that time, all of the music for the military was played by fife and drum.Their history begins with Civil War veterans and local GAR posts. There were also records of the "famous" Fife and Drum Corps of Los Angeles, composed of veterans of the Civil War, who attended a G.A.R. encampment in Reno, Nevada in 1913. Los Angeles Fifes and Drums will be doing on stage performances plus marching through the event at times as well.

There are solo and pipe band competitions, drumming competitions, a drum clinic on Sunday morning, the exciting Drum Major Competition and more. The massed pipe bands are always thrilling during the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

Highland & Country Dancing

The beautiful costumes and steps of the Highland Dancers are a Festival favorite and there are Highland Dance competitions both days. There is also traditional crowd-pleasing Country Dancing.

Children’s Glen

The Children’s Glen hosts a number of fun activities for the little ones. Children of all ages can participate in downsized, mini athletic events (such as mini-caber toss, pillow over the bar and mini-braemar stone putt.) There are also a number of Celtic craft projects and the ever-popular Celtic Quest: hunting for various sites throughout the Festival and returning for a prize.

Fascinating Living History

Step back in time with costumed historical re-enactment Groups depicting life in 16th Century Scotland with Clan Galbraith, St. Andrew’s Society including meet and greets and tea with Mary Queen of Scots, and the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism).  Performers will entertain and educate Festival-goers though the medium of living history in a very large demonstration area at the Festival. The costumes are magnificent and Mary Queen of Scots and her court entertain visitors throughout both days.

Clan Avenue

Festival attendees will also enjoy researching their own clans at the clan and Celtic association tents as they stroll through the Avenue of Clans. Come research your Celtic heritage and meet members of your clan. There are dozens of clans who welcome visitors to their tents and share information about their history with Festival attendees.

Sheep Dog and Duck Herding

Watch as these intelligent and highly skilled dogs gently and effectively herd sheep and ducks, under their handlers every command. Introduced to livestock as puppies so they “imprint” on the animals, these dogs are always able to get their ducks in a row!
